1. How and when was WD-40 Company formed?

WD-40 Company began operating in 1953 as Rocket Chemical Company. In 1969, the Company was renamed after what was its only product at that time, WD-40 Multi-Use Product. WD-40 Company, Inc., went public in January of 1973.

WD-40 Company is a global marketing organization dedicated to creating positive lasting memories by developing and selling products which solve problems in workshops, factories and homes around the world. Our products are found under the sink, in the garage and in toolboxes of loyal fans in more than 176 countries and territories around the world.

3. What is WD-40 Company’s growth strategy?

Our growth strategy is simple but it is different in mature markets than in emerging markets.

In mature markets our strategy is to leverage the brand equity of our WD-40 Multi-Use Product in order to introduce new products and product categories which we believe will enable us to expand the number of SKUs, distribution and use of our products.

In emerging markets our growth will come from expanding the distribution, brand awareness and use of WD-40 Multi-Use Product.

We come to work every day to take WD-40 Multi-Use Product to more places, more people, more uses, more frequently.

4. What is the secret ingredient in WD-40 Multi-Use Product?

The ingredients in WD-40 Multi-Use Product are secret. But we can tell you what it does NOT contain. WD-40 Multi-Use Product does not contain silicone, kerosene, water, graphite, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) or fish oil.

5. Why do you call it WD-40?

WD-40 literally stands for Water Displacement, 40th formula. That's the name straight out of the lab book used by the chemist who developed the product back in 1953.

6. What other brands and product lines does WD-40 Company offer?

We market our multi-purpose and specialty maintenance products and our homecare and cleaning products under the following well-known brands: WD-40®, WD-40 Specialist, WD-40 BIKE, 3-IN-ONE®, GT85, X-14®, 2000 Flushes®, Carpet Fresh®, no vac®, Spot Shot®, 1001®, Lava® and Solvol®.
